In a Victorian house that has been divided into three flats the owner, Barbara, contentedly occupies the ground floor. The basement is where Gilbert, an eccentric handyman, resides. Barbara is letting Nikki, and her fiancé Hamish, use the upstairs flat, even though she has taken a dislike to him. Life gets more and more complicated as passions are aroused.
